"When your greatest adventure turns into your worst nightmare."

Genre films’ fan, whose inspirations were such movies as The Conversation, Chinatown and All The President’s Men, received an international success already with his feature debut Insomnia (1997), whose remake was directed with American filmmaker Christopher Nolan. Erik Skjoldbjærg’s Pioneer is an impressive story based on historical events.

In the early 80’s began the Norwegian Oil Boom. Enormous oil and gas deposits provided endless possibilities and wealth, and authorities aimed to bring them ashore through a pipeline 500 meters deep. Petter, a professional diver, along with his brother Knut, has the discipline, strength and courage to take on the world’s most dangerous mission. But a sudden, tragic accident changes everything. Petter is sent on a perilous journey where he loses sight of who is pulling the strings. Gradually, he realizes that he is in way over his head and that his life is at stake.

The movie was presented at International Film Festival in Toronto.
